2011 TCSHMUN Begins!

A new year has begun! We hope everyone enjoyed 2010 but 2011 has arrived and it's gonna be bigger and better! With the new year, comes a new Executive Committee!

Relieving Thong Wai Cheong of his post, Dani Kim will be serving as the new Head of Admin!

Lee Hyun Seok will be taking over Lina Abushouk as Conference Director!

The position of Secretary goes to Alia Saiful, taking over Sugeeta Sukumar!

This year, we'll be having not one but TWO Vice Presidents. They will be none other than Melissa Tang and Dhivya Sekar, who takes over Nickolai Fernandez!

Last but not least, taking over our outgoing President, Abhinav Vadrevu, is Victor Tan!

The Security Council is the highest organ in the United Nations framework, solely tasked with the maintenance of global peace and security, the Security Council is permanently working to maintain stability around the world. While only 15 members strong, the Security Council is an effective organ to tackle issues of great importance, although the veto power of the Permanent Five some time.

Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
The Economic and Social Council is one of the first organs in the UN framework ever to be established. Since 1945, ECOSOC carries out its mandate to achieve higher standards of living, full employment, to greater international cultural and educational cooperation or to find solution to international economic, social health or related problems. It has 54 seats that are held by elected members of the UN to help it pursue its mandate.

Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL)

The Special Political and Decolonization Committee deals with a variety of subjects which include those related to decolonization, Palestinian refugees and human rights, peacekeeping, mine action, outer space, public information, atomic radiation and University for Peace.

Of New EXCOs, ECA Drive and Being Voted "Best Club 2009"

Greetings from TCSHMUN!

We hope you have had an enjoyable holiday, but now it's back to college and that means back to more engaging MUN activities!

With the new year, comes some fresh faces in the TCSHMUN Executive Committee Members:

Our new President, who takes over from the MUN's first leader and club-founder Isabell Zubinsha Melvin, is Abhinav Vadrevu.

And then of course there is Nickolai Fernandez, the new Vice President, who takes over the reigns from Audrey Ser.

Next is Sugeeta Sukumar, the Assistant Secretary.

Hew Kah Mun takes over as Treasurer of the Club.

This year's Conference Director is none other than Lina Abushouk.

The post of Assistant Head of Administrative Staff is Thong Wai Cheong.

Arthur Chia, who contributed immensely to the Club's Advertising and Marketing in 2009 has now aptly been given the post of PR Officer.

He is to take under his wings: Imran Zubir and Ervin Cheah -- the two who will share the responsibilities of Assistant PR Officer.

Returning to their initial posts since the establishment of the Club are:

Secretary Aisha Rodriguez as well as Heads of Administrative Staff Cheong Victor and Tan Yi Wenn.

The post of Assistant Conference Director is to be decided this year from the new January 2010 intake. While this person walks among us now in college, it is up to us to ensure he/she knows about our club and makes the right decision to join it.

Hence, this is a call to all of you to spread the word on the ECA Drive!

Schools are requested to ensure that delegates assigned to the Security Council at KLMUN have prior
experience in a Security Council at another conference, or have a strong interest in matters of
international security and peace.

I am Shenn, currently a UN Club member of HELP.I am also one of the organizer of 350 Action Day under an environmental organisation, Malaysian Youth Climate Justice Network(MYCJN).I am sending this email to invite TCSHMUN to take action on 24th Oct, the International Day of Climate Action which is also known as UN Day. As we all know climate change is deadly serious now. Predicted water shortages, rising sea levels, crop failures and dangerous weather events threaten the lives of billions within decades unless action is taken immediately.UN climate change conference is going to be held in Copenhagen,Denmark this December. But the problem is, the treaty currently on the table doesn't meet the severity of the climate crisis—it doesn't pass the 350 test.

350.org is an international campaign dedicated to build a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science and justice demand.The focus is on the number 350--as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a number--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.

October 24 is the International Day of Climate Action, where people from all around the world are doing something to raise awareness about the 350 campaign. The 350 campaign is an awareness campaign at all levels to reduce carbon levels to 350 parts per million (ppm), which scientists say is the safe limit for humanity. Currently the amount in the global atmosphere is about 385.92ppm, which is already significantly above the acceptable threshold.

In support of the 350 campaign, the Malaysian Youth Climate Justice Network (MYCJN) are seeking youth volunteers to perform a flash mob. We hope to see as much as young performers to perform a short song and dance routine so here’s your chance to realize your Bollywood fantasies along with other people! While having some fun, here’s your chance to meet other environmentally conscious youths like you, and more importantly, here’s our chance to make an impact as youths to spread the message to the Malaysian public. Believe us, a huge song and dance routine at City Centre WILL get notice, and you will be able to make some different to climate change!

TCSHMUN Future Leap

The objective of the TCSHMUN Future Leap is to elect the 2010 Executive Committee members (EXCO members) for TCSHMUN and for active member participation.

There will be 2 teams competing in throughout; the Charity Team and the Exhibition Team.

The Charity Team would be lead by Cho Hyun Joo with 13 members and the Exhibition Team would be lead by Abhinav Vadrevu with 12 members.

The activities would be carried out before the 4th of November 2009 (Wednesday) and a formal complete report would be handed in by the 6th of November 2009 (Thursday).

Both teams would be evaluated with a scoring scheme by the teacher advisor Mr. Rahul, president Isabell and vice president Audrey of TCSHMUN.

The winning team would be rewarded at the end of the day and all members of the teams would be awarded "active" certificates for being a TCSHMUN member.

We shall await for what both the teams has to offer us. The results, process, and the event would be updated on this blog.

The TCSHMUN weekly resolution debate

The Model United Nations resolution debate would run with a pre-made resolution obtained from various other Model United Nations conferences or the United Nations itself. The pre-made resolution would be given out to all members to be debated upon. Different pre-made resolutions would be given out at every resolution debate practice.

A chairperson would be available to facilitate the debate. Executive Committee members would also be available to overlook and/or participate in the resolution debate practice.

The weekly Model United Nations resolution debate would allow the members to enhance their speaking skills and their exposure towards world issues. It is part of the scheme of TCSHMUN Internal 1 Conference which was held on the 4th of April 2009 to give MUN members a better understanding and preparation towards MUN conferences.

The person that would be faciliating this activity at every week would be Abhinav Vadrevu. Do seek him or the Executive Committee for further inquiries.

2) Legalization of gay marriages

* both committees will debate on the same topics
* there will be NO DELEGATION FEE charged
* all delegates are required to make an opening speech

Pre-conference briefing:

A workshop will be conducted during our general meeting on Wednesday, 22nd July at Room 2.4, 3.30pm. We will brief you on MUN procedures, opening speeches, research, and resolution writing.
